SCS Manufacturing, Inc. is a central Vancouver Island manufacturer of Waste Containers, Flat Decks, Gravel Boxes, and open-top containers. SCS also provides custom fabrication and design services to our clients. SCS services the Waste, Construction, Oil and Gas, Forestry, and Mining industries in Western Canada and Alaska.

SCS Manufacturing, Inc., a division of The Hazelwood Group, is seeking a full-time Saw Operator to join our team of hard-working, dedicated staff at our production facility in South Nanaimo, BC.

Compensation

  • $24-$28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Summary

The Saw Operator is responsible for reading and interpreting the Bill of Materials (BOM) to determine material requirements and cut components to precise specifications. This role involves ensuring that all cut materials are accurately labeled and organized for production, meeting schedule demands. The Saw Operator is an integral part of the pre-process team, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure workflow efficiency. Effective communication is crucial, as this role requires providing updates on deficiencies, problems, and work status to team members and supervisors. Additionally, the Saw Operator must be capable of working independently and maintaining productivity without direct supervision. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Job Duties

  • Review and interpret BOM/nests to determine required materials.
  • Retrieve and stage materials using a Combi lift and/or forklift.
  • Accurately measure and cut components using the steel saw.
  • Load and organize cut parts onto carts in the correct sequence for production.
  • Deliver material to appropriate bay or “cell” when called
  • Inspect cut materials to ensure they are straight, square, and meet quality standards.
  • Monitor saw blade conditions, request replacements, and perform blade changes as required.
  • Adhere to the preventative maintenance schedule for the steel saw.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of in-house training provided by the Supervisor.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Excel, and timekeeping apps.
  • Strong material and time management skills.
  • Manual dexterity and precision handling of materials.
