Hazelwood is looking for a driven, detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager to help bring complex construction projects to life. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy balancing technical detail with big-picture coordination, and want real exposure to both estimating and project delivery, this role is for you.

You’ll play a critical role from tender to close-out, supporting estimating, planning, execution, cost control, and client coordination to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget.

Compensation

  • $70,000 to $80,000, depending on experience and qualifications

What You’ll Be Doing

Partner with Project Managers to:

  • Develop and maintain construction schedules
  • Review estimates and help lead project kick-off meetings
  • Track daily costs using Heavy Job and Explorer software
  • Review and verify daily timesheets
  • Coordinate materials, subcontractors, workforce, and equipment
  • Support contract negotiations with clients
  • Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers; prepare purchase orders
  • Prepare and price change orders (client and subcontractor)
  • Assist with cost and delay claims
  • Prepare and submit progress draws
  • Review and approve subcontractor/supplier invoices
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned

Work alongside Estimators to:

  • Prepare detailed estimates using Explorer and/or Heavy Bid
  • Review drawings and tender documents thoroughly
  • Help prepare and submit competitive tenders and proposals
  • Attend site visits as required
  • Identify bidding opportunities (BC Bid, Merx, BidCentral, Bids&Tenders, networking, etc.)
  • Participate in estimate review meetings with leadership

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in construction, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 2 years of direct construction industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes and project lifecycles
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to draft and format professional correspondence and project documentation
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
